Free Seminar At The Westfield Running Company

There is a vast amount of information available on running, however, much of it can be conflicting. For example, shoe companies will promote the benefits of wearing footwear with as much cushioning as you could ever want, yet recent research seems to support the claim that running barefoot will provide optimal results. The proponents of barefoot running have raised some excellent questions about running technique, particularly regarding foot strike.

In view of current trends, should you try to change your running technique? How important is your choice of footwear in determining how your foot strikes the ground? Should you ditch your shoes for good, or just replace the ones you currently own? Is minimal footwear the way to go? These questions and many more will be covered in the upcoming free event:

Foot Strike Seminar

Date:  Wednesday, October 19, 2011
Time:  7:30 pm
Location:  Westfield Running Company
Address:  123 Quimby St. Westfield, NJ

Topics to be presented:

Barefoot Running: Is It For You?
One of the latest trends is running barefoot. The purported benefit is that it will force you to land with a forefoot strike, which is claimed to be a safer, more natural way to run. This might work for some people, but is it for everyone? Are shoes really evil? The material presented will encourage a balanced approach to barefoot running.

Foot Strike: Heel, Mid-foot or Forefoot?
How do the elite athletes run? If you are not at the elite level, (yet!) then should you try to imitate the running style of the elite? Are there more important considerations for running technique than which part of your foot makes contact with the ground?

How Strength Training Can Help
Knowing some facts about foot strike is one thing. Applying that information as you get fatigued during a long run is another. Whether you are running for performance goals, or you wish to change your body composition, you will be interested to learn a couple key ways that strength training can help you get more out of your running program.

Seminar attendees will be invited to get on the treadmill in the store, and practice a couple simple techniques that will help you clean up your running form. Please wear appropriate attire and footwear!

Do you know anyone else who you think would benefit by signing up for this seminar? Feel free to pass this info along!
